60k miles isn't that much actually. IIRC, the recomended interval for the Geo was every 30k. So double interval might not be that bad. I'd base the change or not to change on the OEM intervals.

A Jeep definitely has different loads than a commuter car as well. Something else to consider. Honestly, best thing I can think of would be to check a Joop forum, and ask those members about their ATF expereinces.
